Questions and answers

Are you offering me a loan product?

No product is offered here. The site is a set of explanations and worksheets, and nothing on it constitutes a promotion or an invitation to borrow.

How do I know I am comparing like with like?

Make sure the amount borrowed, the term and the purpose are identical, and that each quote includes every compulsory charge. If any of these differ, the comparison will mislead.

Is a soft search the same as a hard search?

They differ. A soft search is visible only to you and is used for things like eligibility tools. A hard search is part of a formal application and may be visible to other lenders.

What is a cooling-off period?

In some countries, a borrower has a short window after signing in which the agreement can be cancelled. Whether one exists, and how long it lasts, depends on local rules and the type of loan.

Do missed payments always damage my credit file?

A missed payment is often recorded, and the effect usually grows if it stays unpaid. Speaking to the lender in good time may lead to an arrangement that limits the damage.
